There are potentially unlimited benefits of personalised neon bar signs australia. They can act as an advertising medium or create a sense of community in the place that they’re installed. Neon signs have been used to encourage everything from binge drinking and street festivals to early voting and blood donations. As neon signs become a more popular way to advertise, they’re becoming increasingly common and long lasting. In turn, these bright moving pictures are changing how streets look across entire regions of the country. Here are 14 signs that the neon signs revolution is coming:
1. Neon in Detroit
Detroit used to be one of the biggest cities in America, but after a long decline its population has fallen precipitously. The city still has plenty of abandoned structures, and a few years ago there was discussion about how Detroit could revitalize by embracing neon signs. In 2008 there were around 5,000 abandoned buildings in the city, but now there are only 3,770. To help combat this issue, Wayne State University’s College of Engineering created a method for building large scale neon signs out of LEDs within three days. While this method hasn’t been used to bring back any old buildings just yet, it could be part of an effort to revive some of those abandoned structures instead of tearing them down (which is often cheaper).
2. New Synagogue
The Geller family, who also own a theater, built a new synagogue in Los Angeles in 2008 out of sixty-four neon signs. The synagogue’s design was intended to look like a series-of-infinity windows (hence the name ‘Endless Windows’) and highlight the Jewish identity of the Jewish community there. Though they’re one of the larger attempts to bring neon signs into Judaism, there are plenty of other synagogues that use neon as part of their design.
3. Festivals on Wheels
Outside Las Vegas’s Neon Museum is an old car transformed into a festival on wheels called “Motorcycle Nation. ” The car contains a large collection of neon signs and is an attempt to bring awareness to the dwindling amount of neon signs in Las Vegas. Unfortunately the car has broken down several times. The two owners suspect that they’re not getting enough electrical power to run everything, but they’ve also gotten a lot of criticism for what people say is an unnecessarily large display at Burning Man.
4. France Has Never Looked Better
The last 50 years have seen Paris turn into a city defined by tall skyscrapers, but recently architects have started paying attention to the lower height region too. For example, architect Barbara Kuit’s development called “La Grive” in Nantes features homes that are covered with mostly blue colored moving neon lights. The sign for the development says “La Grive” in large letters, but translates to “Wake Up” in French.
5. Neon on the Moon
In 2014, NASA launched the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter to map out the surface of the moon. While it’s not designed to be an art installation, people have learned how to use an iPad camera app called ‘Lunar Clock HD’ to create a retro style computer generated neon glow on it using a combination of red and green neon lights. The video below demonstrates what this might look like:
6. It’s Always 11:11 on North Ave.
In Chicago, ‘North Ave’ is a major street that divides the North and South sides of the city. Both sides have been working for decades to try to change their image and attract businesses, but those efforts didn’t really take off until 2013 when something magical happened: whenever you were on the south side it was always 11:11, while whenever you were on the north side it was always 12:12. At first people thought that this was a mistake, but now they say it’s a great way to advertise both sides as equally lively destinations. It also reminds people of what happens in “Back To The Future.”
7. Dope on O’Reilly
In the mid-1980s, the owner of a bar called O’Reilly’s decided to put an ad for his business on an outdoor neon sign. The sign was mostly blue and featured a red stripe down the middle. In order to get people to notice it, he placed a large shed in front of it and parked a couple of cars in front of that as well. After this failed, he hired an artist named Jose Sossa who created something even more impressive: a huge billboard with flames coming out of all four sides. To complete the effect it had to be lit during the day and night, so he hired different lighting companies to rotate lights through the city at night.
Summary:
There are more than 1,500 neon signs on display in the United States. They can be found in bars and restaurants, public facilities such as libraries and fire stations, and even some old churches. However, most of them are concentrated in just a few geographic locations in America. In other words, neon signs is a rapidly growing industry that’s going to be hard to keep contained to the top few cities.

Neon signs are in decline in America, but could a growing obsession with nostalgia for the 20th century revive them?
