The Golden Rules of  Vouge Sign - We Are Bright Lights

What is the Vogue Sign? It’s not just a hand gesture that models do on catwalks. Nor is it a new age, hippie-dippie type of gesture. The vogue sign is one that you make with both hands on either side of your forehead and then slowly move down over your face and then back up in front of your eyes before you take it away from your head. It looks as if you are making the shape of an “H.”

The vogue sign first came out of Eastern Europe. It was part of the style that became known as Nouveau. Nouveau is French for “new.” The vogue sign caught on in the United States in the 1930’s as part of that new, modern European movement. The vogue sign had previously been associated only with children and women who dressed in a very feminine way but it was also worn by men, because this was a fashion statement by the European aristocracy at that time.

Here are some Facts Related to Vouge Sign:

1.Most people know what “Vouge” means which is a mix of words that mean to be fashionable, popular and beautiful. In America, Vouge came into being as part of the fashion craze between 1920 and 1940 – there was no interest in any form of European dress that was not American-made because everyone wanted to be modern.

2.A Vouge Sign is a style of high fashion, especially one that is worn in the 1920s or 1930s. The Vogue was also a popular dance of that era – the period from 1920 to 1939 (there was one year between the two world wars) when there were short skirts and high-heeled shoes.

3.In those days, it was normal for women to wear their hair short with small changes in their hairdo every few months. The hairdo you were wearing got its name from the style where “Vouge” meant “fugue,” which meant how you changed your hairstyle every few months.

4.The founder of  Vouge Sign is usually credited to Coco Chanel because of the fact she made all of her clothes with a high level of sophistication. Even though that may be true, there were many other designers who put many fashionable organisations together in order to bring fashion awareness to the public. Over a hundred years ago, there was a “Fashion Fetish Society” and it was founded by one woman named Madame Versailles-Salie. She founded the society in 1900 and she wanted other women to become involved in fashion as well. 

5.Another designer was Lucile, who also worked with the French couturiers in the early 1800s. She was a huge influence in what we call couture today. In fact, she used to create clothes for other designers such as Edith Head and Eugene Berman.

Conclusions:

It is considered gauche to use the vogue sign when you are speaking to somebody, even if you do speak another language. (This is something I heard from an elderly woman who was born in France and came over here in late teens, so I consider it worthy of mention.) The vogue sign is only used by people who want to be trendy. You can’t be trendy unless you are wealthy enough to pay for that kind of fashion. It’s a symbol of your willingness to “keep up with the Joneses” or your ability to pay the price that designers or the mannequins at high end department stores charge for those clothes.
